Location: Kamini Village
Highlights: private terrace with sunset and sea views, no climb, close to tavernas and shops, beaches and swimming nearby
Close to the beach, local tavernas, and grocery shops and ten minutes’s walk from Hydra Town, this large, traditional Hydriot home is accessible all the way from Hydra Harbor without guests having to navigate any steps, making this house ideal for families with young children or vacationers with mobility issues. A huge terrace overlooks the traditional fishingboats in Kamini Harbour and provides sunset and sea views across the Saronic Gulf to the Peloponnese.
From the street you enter a paved courtyard planted with flowering and scented shrubs as well as some citrus trees. Stairs from the courtyard lead up to the main roof terrace with its grape vine and outdoor seating area, yielding fabulous views, a perfect place to take in the sunset.
On the ground floor, a large square table in the dining room can be pulled out to seat eight comfortably if you come out of season and can't use the outdoor courtyard or terrace areas.
Though there are three good restaurants and a cafe just steps away, e fully equipped kitchen has everything you need to prepare a family meal if you prefer to dine in. You'll find a full-sized oven with a four-ring hob, larder fridge/freezer, and double sink.
The living room has plenty of seating and a TV (please feel free to bring your own portable CD player as there isn't one in the house).
There are five double bedrooms, each with mosquito nets and fans. One of the bedrooms is on the upper floor off the roof terrace and has an en-suite shower room and kitchenette. There is a family shower room on the ground floor for the other rooms.
Koutouzis House is a managed by the owner of the small pension next door. Zoe will meet you at the house and show you around. Throughout your stay, she will be on hand to help you, although you will find a folder in the house full of information to help you.
Our house is large and spacious but not a luxury holiday home. Though simple and rustic (for example our mugs don't match and we have lots of odd glasses; also, the wiring is only single-phase so there's a tendency for the fuses to trip if you have all the lights and fans on at the same time as the cooker!), it has all the basic essentials, the beds are comfortable, and it's well cleaned. There's no air-conditioning but we do provide fans. Having told you the draw backs, we can assure you that Koutouzis House is a delightful traditional Greek island holiday home that's perfect if you want to relax and unwind with you family for a vacation you will never forget.
Because the house doesn't have central heating, it's difficult to heat in winter. For that reason, we limit the number of winter guests to four staying in the main house and not using the upper floor.
Children are welcome.
No pets.
Bed linen is provided.
Maid service is available at an extra cost .
